The Tremont House Project
A Community Project sponsored by The Bellevue Historical Society and Heritage Museum
|
|
Built by Loel Chandler as the largest three-story brick building in the area in 1846, the Tremont House was named after a prominent hotel in Boston. It was first used as a hotel and stage stop. The second floor contained the lobby and rooms, and the third floor a ballroom. The railroad replaced the stagecoach and the building changed with the times. The building has housed a restaurant, a grocery store, a cigar factory, real estate and other offices, meeting rooms, the IOOF, an Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company store, the Green Front Grocery, and Leonard’s Pharmacy.
The goal of this long-term project is professional historic restoration. |

This project will be funded in stages. The first stage will cover the purchase cost by the Bellevue Historical Society and the architectural drawings needed to start the restoration project. Stage One is estimated to cost between $75,000 and $90,000. We are asking everyone in the Bellevue area to help restore the Tremont House back to its original 1846 design. Your tax-exempt gift will help this project become a reality. |
